Who We Are

In the Parish of Dianella we strive to know God in all we do, in all we are, and in all we are to become. This Parish exists for the glory of God through our worship and our care of God’s people. We welcome all amongst us, those the same as us, and those different from us. We love being surprised by what God has in mind for us. We may not have the answers, however we live with our questions knowing that with each day we move closer into the answer.

Our Parish

The Parish is currently seeking a new full time Rector.
Meanwhile, we give thanks for the spiritual, caring, loving and enlivening leadership and ministry of our Locum The Venerable David Ingleson.

Prayer at the time of Choosing Our New Rector:
Bountiful God,
give to this Parish a faithful Pastor who will
faithfully speak your word and minister your sacraments,
an encourager who will equip your people for ministry and
enable us to fulfil our calling.
Give to those who will choose, wisdom, discernment and patience,
and to us give warm and generous hearts, for Jesus Christ's sake. Amen.

History

For many years prior to 1964, the Anglican Church in Dianella met in the Cleveland Street State School for Services and Sunday School. As the suburb grew, parishioners were keen for a Church building of their own, and so land was made available in Delphine Avenue around the corner. There, a small hall was built, the foundation stone being laid on 26 April 1964. Regular Services commenced, with priests from the parent Church of St. Patrick’s Mt. Lawley officiating.Eight years later, on 1 December 1972, the Parish of All Saints’, Dianella, was formally inaugurated, and its first parish priest, The Reverend Tom Sutton, appointed. However, the need for a larger Centre was soon recognised and with the advice, encouragement and financial assistance from Home Missions, land was made available on Grand Promenade. In October 1974, the Delphine Avenue hall was demolished and the land sold. During the nine months it took for the Centre to be completed, the Roman Catholic Church in Grand Promenade graciously offered All Saints’ the use of their large hall. Finally, on 29 Sunday June 1975, the dedication of All Saints Centre and the first Eucharist took place, with the late Archbishop The Most Reverend Geoffrey Sambell officiating. We give thanks for the vibrant and enriching ministry of our six former Rectors - The Rev’d Canon Tom Sutton; The Late Venerable Norman Apthorp; The Rev’d Bruce Byfield; The Rev’d Canon Tony Murray-Feist; The Rev’d Ross Kilpatrick; The Rev’d Jeremy James and The Rev'd Wendy Gilbert. The Parish will always be indebted to the building firm N&M Cullenane (Neville and Maxine were parishioners) who donated their time, labour and skills in building the Centre and later the Rectory, charging only for the materials - twice.
